Hi All, I created a Facebook Group of the same name "Burnetts Down Under" some time ago, which I have been using as a conduit for trying to connect as many descendents of Burnet/Burnett/Burnette emigrants to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
To some extent this has been succesful, but I am hoping that this platform will prove even more so.
I would welcome any discusiion, comments, stories or anything of interest from anyone who is descended from someone who emigrated "Down Under".
My own connection is with Kenneth Burnett who emigrated from Scotland in December 1882. Through Kenneth I can trace my ancestors back to Alexander Burnet born in 1729 to Andrew Burnet and Isoble Scott.
Many descendants of Alexander have emigrated to the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Hi Bob,
Greetings from Canberra. I just got back from two months in Europe and visiting the family seat.
Glad to see more Australian Burnetts about.
Cheers Paul
Hello Bob - in my role as one of the House genealogists, I have been doing some work for another Burnett descendant which has resulted in me coming across the names of Andrew B and Isobel Scott. Could you contact me direct please at lawrencepearse@msn.com so that I can follow this up with you, please?

Hi Bob, I worked in Australia for about a year - in Melbourne in the late 1990's. My maiden name was Burnett. A co-worker told me that his grandmother was a Burnett and explained to me all about the Burnett history. It was the first Burnett I met that seemed to know anything about our ancient history. He told me that the name came from the Norman invasion and evolved from the French name Bernard. We have many Burnett's from Australia and New Zealand in the Burnett Project, most of whom descend from Burnett of Barns. Hope you will join us one day. In the meantime, keep up the great work!
Bob, thanks so much for posting! I hope many Burnetts will join in and contribute!
